The UNSA and Hesk Industries announced their plans to build a colony fleet once a habitable planet was discovered in another star system; the year they made this announcement was 2130.
A new exploration effort began, and thousands of drone spacecraft were sent to star systems that hosted potential worlds for humans to colonize. It would not be for another fifteen years before this search discovered something extraordinary.
In 2145, a stunning planet was found. It had vast, bright orange deserts that spread across the surface. Dark, snow capped mountain ranges hugged the equator; forming an entire ring around the planet. Lakes of liquid water that boasted a bright turquoise could be observed on the northern and southern sides of this continuous mountain range.
The breathable atmosphere is accredited to the microscopic plant life that inhabit the hundreds of thousands of lakes; which was the first sign of life discovered in another star system. The planet was given the name, Novus; and the star it orbited was given the name, Mira.
It was decided, Novus was to become the first planet to host a human colony in another star system. However, even with the fastest space craft, such as the Irene, it would take at least one year to reach the planet. The time required to build a proper colony fleet would also take a minimum of ten years.
At this time, Irene and Erik Hesk were both in their mid to late eighties. For the past twenty years they had been preparing their two children to one day take over Hesk Industries. They both came to the decision to officially hand control of the company down to their children, and it would be them to lead the way in the construction of the new colonization fleet.
Irene and Erik Hesk were extremely well known and looked up to. For it was them who introduced to humanity the ability to finally explore other stars with profound efficiency. Titans of their time, they enjoyed a peaceful end to their story as their children would inherit their legacy and take it to new heights. Two lovers caught up in a dream that became reality, a reality that would lay the foundations of hope and prosperity for many, but in time would lead to untold suffering and chaos.
