The universe is strange, there is no denying this, but somehow it continues to reveal itself to be even more so all the time. This strangeness is what lures the curious into studying it, those who wonder and dwell on the fascinating complexity of it all. Unfortunately, not all humans share this same wonder. Instead, there are those who seek to exploit this strangeness for the betterment of their beliefs and convictions. Edward Teal, one of the many scientists working on the first major exploration initiative in 2130 (See Entry 3 in Miracles and the Scientific Method: The Invention of Faster Than Light Travel) was approached by someone he’s never met before. They weren’t an employee of the UNSA, so this confused him as to how or why this individual was here. This individual was a woman of athletic stature, she had black hair, and oddly pale skin. She knew him by name which further perplexed him. She told him to direct one of the probes into what would one day be named the Mira system. He questioned her with why’s and how’s, but she would always tell him it was of the utmost importance that he do so. Without explaining herself in any way, she left him with a written note of where to send the probe.
Edward kept the note, but did not pay it any attention for a few days. That same curiosity that led him to his current position within the UNSA, also kept him from outright ignoring the stranger’s note. What if’s began to swirl within his mind. Day by day, the note begged him with an ever growing plea to be taken seriously. Eventually he succumbed, and discretely redirected a probe towards the star system named on the stranger’s note. Of course this caused some confusion among his peers, but he cleverly left no evidence that he was the one who changed the probe’s course.
Years went by as the probe continued on its journey towards the star system, and with every passing year grew within Edward a madness. Nothing serious, just an unyielding want for answers. In time, he would receive the answers he so desperately craved. Fifteen years would go by before the answers to his undying questions would be answered. Plant life on another planet, in another star system was discovered thanks to his curiosity; but that truth would stay with him till the end of his life. To the world, it was a matter of chance that this life bearing planet was discovered. How could he share his story now that the discovery has been made? Who would believe him? No, he would never receive credit for the discovery of the planet Novus in the Mira system. The mystery of the stranger he saw all those years ago would haunt his memories until his dying day.
Having taken advantage of mankind’s innocent curiosity, a group of conspirators had laid the foundations to their schemes. A new planet meant a new beginning, and where better to invoke a new way of life than on a planet light years from Earth. As always, unbeknownst to even the conspirators themselves, they were a part of something beyond even their own understanding.
