Welcome to the ninth entry of my blog where I discuss the development of the story I’m currently writing, Saviors of Novus. These entries are a place for me to ramble on about the details of my story, and also so I can sort of vent my creativity without having to worry about sentence structure and other aspects of writing a well thought out story. Simply put, I sometimes need to write without thinking, if that makes any sense.
Where has the time gone? My last update was near the end of September, and now it’s already the end of October. This rather large gap in time between posts and progress was due to my seasonal job as a golf caddie. The end of season always becomes very busy up until the last day we’re open, so I didn’t have much energy to spare for this project. However, Fall is in full swing with Winter on the horizon, which means more writing! I do the unthinkable and work hard to save up money during the summer so I can take the winter off. This allows me to dedicate as much time as I need for writing, and believe me I need all the time I can get! I’m a colossally slow writer, and it does bother me all the time. I overthink each and every sentence I write, and constantly go back to previous ones and edit them before moving on. I know everyone has their own way of doing things, and I guess this is mine; and I’m trying to learn to be okay with it. Because if the end product is something people love, then I must be doing something right, right? I don’t know, I could go on and on about that.
Once work ended for the season I immediately got to work on the revision for chapter one of Saviors of Novus. On the day of this update I have completed my work on it! This first chapter is a huge accomplishment for me. It’s nearly ten pages long in my google doc with over five thousand words. For me, this is a big deal and milestone. I’ve never written a chapter to this degree before. Its packed full of subtle world building details, characters, and plot points people won’t notice until later when they look back on it; which makes me extremely excited for people to connect the dots.
I understand for most experienced writers this may not sound like much, and I know I have a long way to go with potential for a lot of growth. I’m still not entirely certain on how big of a project this will turn into, but I do know it could become something big in terms of size. It just feels so good to finally have found my footing after all these years of trials and tribulations. For so long I was uncertain on what kind of story I wanted to tell, who the main characters would be, the setting, the overall plot, etc. I just knew I had a story to tell. After finally finding that story I’ve felt motivation I’ve never felt before, and it’s an amazing feeling.
So, the next exciting thing I wanted to share is that once my editors have gone through the first revision and made their suggestions and corrections, I will work fast to apply them and then, share it with the public! I intend on only sharing the first chapter for free. As of right now, my goal is to finish this story and try and either get it published or self publish it, I’ll cross that bridge when I get to it (story reference there haha.)
I’ve began preparations for the second chapter, and have an outline laid out for it. Once the first revision is complete and shared, I will begin work on the second chapter. My plan is to write a chapter, share it with editors, write the first revision of that chapter, have editors look at it one more time, then apply their corrections/suggestions, then move on to the next chapter until the whole story is complete. Once I have the full story done, I will then go through it as a whole and make any further changes or revisions as they’re needed, after that I will then look into publishing options.
I hope that any who read these updates have enjoyed them as much as I enjoy writing and sharing them. I hope you will continue to stick with me as I progress through this journey, and one day give the final product a read. its something I’ve dedicated much of my young adult life to, and I hope it inspires and entertains those who give it a read. Anyways, please go have yourself a fantastic day and enjoy some screenshots I took using Space Engine down below.
