Entry 2: Vis' Role in the Pioneer Order

As a whole, the Pioneer Order held an immense amount of power. Without Vis Azayam, this power would’ve gone completely unchecked. The accountability of the Pioneer Order was kept by two individuals, Vis and Aiden. Vis was known to be mischievous and deceptive, while Aiden was known for his honor and dedication to the Novusion people. Vis kept the Pioneers in check by using the gifts he received from his Chosen, Azayam. He acted as the Pioneer’s personal psychologist as he would peer into their thoughts to assess their mental well being. He would meet with each Pioneer individually and ask them a list of questions. When they answered he would look into their thoughts to make certain they were speaking the truth, but his abilities weren’t unstoppable. If the Pioneer in question wished to keep Vis out of their head, they could exert their will against his. It would then become a battle of wills, whoever was stronger, more desperate, they would be the victor. While this rarely occurred, Vis was usually the victor.

While some hardly lent their trust to Vis, they most certainly would offer it to Aiden. Being the leader of the Pioneer Order, Aiden Mar was gifted abilities as well. These abilities however, only held sway over another Pioneer, they could not be used on a human without a Chosen. Aiden’s purpose as the leader of the Pioneer Order was to keep them in line, to guide them, and to teach them. No Pioneer dared oppose Aiden, for he had the authority to strip any Pioneer of their Chosen, and reassign it to another. Each ability in his possession acted as a counter for each member of the Pioneer Order. If any were to rebel or commit a serious crime, he was able to nullify their gifts so long as he was in their presence. So this is how Vis Azayam was kept in check, any folly of his would never go unnoticed nor unpunished by Aiden, and no treachery of any Pioneer could be kept from Vis.

Vis’ loyalties to Novus originated with the Court of Twelve, now the Court of Thirteen. When he became a Pioneer those loyalties remained the same. This made him an informant to the Court of Thirteen on the Pioneer Order’s dealings. The Order was in fact intertwined with the Court, but given Vis’ gifts he was able to offer special insight on the status’ of each Pioneer. Unbeknownst to the Court, Vis also gave special insight to Aiden on the Court’s inner workings. Just as he sowed division among children when he was a boy, he would sow division between the Court and the Order as a man. While Aiden saw through him, the Court did not, and often did Aiden order Vis to meet with him in private. During these moments Aiden would unleash his frustration and anger towards Vis’ mannerisms. Aside from these outbursts Aiden did his best to play his role. He would calm his anger and frustration, and offer Vis guidance and wisdom, which Vis took to heart. Vis was not without morals, but he often put them aside to indulge his desires for social conflicts. When the talks of militarization and war began, he shuttered with glee.
